Obama-- Bringing Change to America
Despite the recent global economic crisis, Americans have something to be happy about—their new president-elect, Obama.
At a time when America is facing problems in its economy and foreign relations, Obama called on Americans to support his policies for change. Change is precisely what many Americans want, and this message was loud and clear when Obama beat McCain to win the presidential election with record breaking numbers.
Obama’s supporters weren’t limited to just African Americans and other ethnic minorities; he also won over 40 percent of the white male vote in America. In comparison, former president Jimmy Carter had only won 38 percent in 1976.
Obama has established a number of firsts in political history. Not only is he the first African-American president of the United States, he also may be the first black leader of any white-majority nation in the world.
People around the world are anxious to see what change Obama can bring to America; however, it won’t be until January 20, 2009, when Obama is sworn into office, will people be able to witness this change.
